A friend of mine told me about this female Dr., friend of his, who had escaped Africa and received asylum here in the United States because her parents wanted to cut off her clitoris back in her home town. I thought that was pretty weird. I couldn’t believe that in this day and age, people were still running around cutting off young girls’ clits, as an acceptable cultural custom.
Quite frankly, I don’t think men should be circumcised either, because I understand it causes a loss of pleasurable sensation for the man during sex, but that’s a whole other painting (See Hand Job Series).

What I wondered while I painted this, was why nobody in this God-fearing, United States government administration was doing anything about this indignity. Forget about trying to save Iraq from Saddam Hussein. It’s obvious that nobody but Dick Cheney and Halliburton’s investors want United States soldiers in Iraq. Wouldn’t it be great if we sent our young freedom fighting soldiers to Africa instead? I can’t think of a more noble cause than saving a woman’s clitoris. I’m surprised President Bush doesn’t agree.

This painting is in honor of a woman’s God Given right to have an orgasm. Amen.
